Joel Heidelbaugh, MD, is Professor (Clinical Track) in the Department of Family Medicine and Urology at the University of Michigan. He is currently a Staff Physician at the Ypsilanti Health Center and University Family Medicine Inpatient Service at the University of Michigan. At the University’s Department of Family Medicine, he also is the Director of Medical Student Education and Fellowship Director. Dr. Heidelbaugh’s research is focused on gastroesophageal reflux disease and stress ulcer prophylaxis, evaluating a multi-disciplinary approach to chronic pelvic pain in men and improving outcomes in patients with prostate cancer. Dr. Heidelbaugh was chapter co-chair of the Rome IV Primary Care Committee and is the co-editor of the Rome IV publication: Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders for Primary Care and Non-GI Clinicians. He is very active in student, resident and faculty teaching and mentoring. He has been named the Top 10 Family Physicians – US News and World Report, Best Doctors in America, and America’s Top Family Doctors, Consumers Research Council of America.
